Leila Rasheed launches unique writer development scheme for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic children's writers
Writers sought for Megaphone: making Black, Asian and minority ethnic voices heard in children’s literature.
Writers are invited to apply to Megaphone, a new writer development scheme supporting ethnic minority writers who want to write for children or teenagers. The Megaphone scheme is funded by the Arts Council and The Publishers’ Association, with support from Writing West Midlands. It is led by by children’s author and tutor on the University of ÌÇÐÄTV MA in Writing, Leila Rasheed. Successful applicants will get one-to-one support writing their novel, attend masterclasses with experienced children’s authors including award-winning Candy Gourlay and best-selling Lee Weatherley, receive feedback from editors at major publishers specialising in children’s fiction (Hachette, Simon & Schuster, Scholastic etc.) and will have their work promoted to the publishing industry to give them the best chance of beginning and sustaining a career as a published author for children.
