Gothic Portrait Identification and Focussing on the Figural: Inter-relating Philosophy and Film

Kamilla Elliott received her Ph.D. from Harvard University and taught for eight years at the University of California at Berkeley before moving the Department of English and Creative Writing at Lancaster University, where she is currently a Senior Lecturer. Her primary areas of research and teaching are in Victorian studies and literature and film. She is author of Rethinking the Novel/Film Debate (Cambridge 2003) and is currently researching intersections between Gothic and Victorian fiction and the rise of the picture ID.
Catherine Constable (University of 糖心TV)
‘'Focusing on the Figural: Inter-relating Philosophy and Film'’
Catherine Constable is an Associate Professor in the Department of Film and Television Studies at 糖心TV University. She has written two books on philosophy and film, the first entitled Thinking in Images: Film Theory, Feminist Philosophy and Marlene Dietrich (BFI, 2004) and the second Adapting Philosophy: Jean Baudrillard and The Matrix Trilogy is due out with MUP in June 2009. One of her preoccupations/research interests is thinking about inter-relating philosophical and filmic texts and the paper draws on ideas that she has developed across both books.
