Essay Prompt:
Write an essay that makes an argument about the relationship between bodily loci of racial meaning and theories of racial origin. Your essay will either:
1. Examine the different bodily sites that have been claimed as the evidence of racial difference within one lineage of racial thinking, and their implications for that theory.
or
2. Examine different racial theories that have made use of one bodily site, and how that site operates differently across those theories.
As a benchmark, you should aim to look at 3 items in whichever set you鈥檙e looking at a variety of (i.e. 3 bodily sites if option 1, 3 racial theories if option 2). It can work to just look at 2 if they are very different, and it can work to look at 4 if they collapse into fewer categories. Use your discretion.
You are required to consult at least 3 secondary sources (whether those on the additional reading list or others), and should consult as many as is necessary to fully substantiate your arguments. You are welcome make an Office Hours appointment to check in about your topic/approach.
